Matthew 20:17-28 365D 232.1
17 Now Jesus, going up to Jerusalem, took the twelve disciples aside on the road and said to them, 365D 232.2
18 “Behold, we are going up to Jerusalem, and the Son of Man will be betrayed to the chief priests and to the scribes; and they will condemn Him to death, 365D 232.3
19 and deliver Him to the Gentiles to mock and to scourge and to crucify. And the third day He will rise again.” 365D 232.4
20 Then the mother of Zebedee’s sons came to Him with her sons, kneeling down and asking something from Him. 365D 232.5
21 And He said to her, “What do you wish?” She said to Him, “Grant that these two sons of mine may sit, one on Your right hand and the other on the left, in Your kingdom.” 365D 232.6
22 But Jesus answered and said, “You do not know what you ask. Are you able to drink the cup that I am about to drink, [e] and be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with?” They said to Him, “We are able.” 365D 232.7
23 So He said to them, “You will indeed drink My cup, [f] and be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with; but to sit on My right hand and on My left is not Mine to give, but it is for those for whom it is prepared by My Father.” 365D 232.8
24 And when the ten heard it, they were greatly displeased with the two brothers. 365D 232.9
25 But Jesus called them to Himself and said, “You know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and those who are great exercise authority over them. 365D 232.10
26 Yet it shall not be so among you; but whoever desires to become great among you, let him be your servant. 365D 232.11
27 And whoever desires to be first among you, let him be your slave— 365D 232.12
28 just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many.” 365D 232.13
Mark 10:32-45 365D 232.14
32 Now they were on the road, going up to Jerusalem, and Jesus was going before them; and they were amazed. And as they followed they were afraid. Then He took the twelve aside again and began to tell them the things that would happen to Him: 365D 232.15
33 “Behold, we are going up to Jerusalem, and the Son of Man will be betrayed to the chief priests and to the scribes; and they will condemn Him to death and deliver Him to the Gentiles; 365D 232.16
34 and they will mock Him, and [e] scourge Him, and spit on Him, and kill Him. And the third day He will rise again.” 365D 232.17
35 Then James and John, the sons of Zebedee, came to Him, saying, “Teacher, we want You to do for us whatever we ask.” 365D 232.18
36 And He said to them, “What do you want Me to do for you?” 365D 232.19
37 They said to Him, “Grant us that we may sit, one on Your right hand and the other on Your left, in Your glory.” 365D 232.20
38 But Jesus said to them, “You do not know what you ask. Are you able to drink the cup that I drink, and be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with?” 365D 232.21
39 They said to Him, “We are able.” So Jesus said to them, “You will indeed drink the cup that I drink, and with the baptism I am baptized with you will be baptized; 365D 232.22
40 but to sit on My right hand and on My left is not Mine to give, but it is for those for whom it is prepared.” 365D 232.23
41 And when the ten heard it, they began to be greatly displeased with James and John. 365D 232.24
42 But Jesus called them to Himself and said to them, “You know that those who are considered rulers over the Gentiles lord it over them, and their great ones exercise authority over them. 365D 232.25
43 Yet it shall not be so among you; but whoever desires to become great among you shall be your servant. 365D 232.26
44 And whoever of you desires to be first shall be slave of all. 365D 232.27
45 For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many.” 365D 232.28
Luke 18:31-34 365D 232.29
31 Then He took the twelve aside and said to them, “Behold, we are going up to Jerusalem, and all things that are written by the prophets concerning the Son of Man will be [f] accomplished. 365D 232.30
32 For He will be delivered to the Gentiles and will be mocked and insulted and spit upon. 365D 232.31
33 They will scourge Him and kill Him. And the third day He will rise again.” 365D 232.32
34 But they understood none of these things; this saying was hidden from them, and they did not know the things which were spoken. 365D 232.33
