Matthew 19:16-30 365D 220.1
16 Now behold, one came and said to Him, “Good [d] Teacher, what good thing shall I do that I may have eternal life?” 365D 220.2
17 So He said to him, [e] “Why do you call Me good? [f] No one is good but One, that is, God. But if you want to enter into life, keep the commandments.” 365D 220.3
18 He said to Him, “Which ones?” Jesus said, “‘You shall not murder,’ ‘You shall not commit adultery,’ ‘You shall not steal,’ ‘You shall not bear false witness,’ 365D 220.4
19 ‘Honor your father and your mother,’ and, ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ ” 365D 220.5
20 The young man said to Him, “All these things I have kept [g] from my youth. What do I still lack?” 365D 220.6
21 Jesus said to him, “If you want to be perfect, go, sell what you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow Me.” 365D 220.7
22 But when the young man heard that saying, he went away sorrowful, for he had great possessions. 365D 220.8
23 Then Jesus said to His disciples, “Assuredly, I say to you that it is hard for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven. 365D 220.9
24 And again I say to you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God.” 365D 220.10
25 When His disciples heard it, they were greatly astonished, saying, “Who then can be saved?” 365D 220.11
26 But Jesus looked at them and said to them, “With men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.” 365D 220.12
27 Then Peter answered and said to Him, “See, we have left all and followed You. Therefore what shall we have?” 365D 220.13
28 So Jesus said to them, “Assuredly I say to you, that in the regeneration, when the Son of Man sits on the throne of His glory, you who have followed Me will also sit on twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel. 365D 220.14
29 And everyone who has left houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother [h] or wife or children or [i] lands, for My name’s sake, shall receive a hundredfold, and inherit eternal life. 365D 220.15
30 But many who are first will be last, and the last first. 365D 220.16
Mark 10:17-31 365D 220.17
17 Now as He was going out on the road, one came running, knelt before Him, and asked Him, “Good Teacher, what shall I do that I may inherit eternal life?” 365D 220.18
18 So Jesus said to him, “Why do you call Me good? No one is good but One, that is, God. 365D 220.19
19 You know the commandments: ‘Do not commit adultery,’ ‘Do not murder,’ ‘Do not steal,’ ‘Do not bear false witness,’ ‘Do not defraud,’ ‘Honor your father and your mother.’ ” 365D 220.20
20 And he answered and said to Him, “Teacher, all these things I have kept from my youth.” 365D 220.21
21 Then Jesus, looking at him, loved him, and said to him, “One thing you lack: Go your way, sell whatever you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, take up the cross, and follow Me.” 365D 220.22
22 But he was sad at this word, and went away sorrowful, for he had great possessions. 365D 220.23
23 Then Jesus looked around and said to His disciples, “How hard it is for those who have riches to enter the kingdom of God!” 365D 220.24
24 And the disciples were astonished at His words. But Jesus answered again and said to them, “Children, how hard it is [b] for those who trust in riches to enter the kingdom of God! 365D 220.25
25 It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God.” 365D 220.26
26 And they were greatly astonished, saying among themselves, “Who then can be saved?” 365D 220.27
27 But Jesus looked at them and said, “With men it is impossible, but not with God; for with God all things are possible.” 365D 220.28
28 Then Peter began to say to Him, “See, we have left all and followed You.” 365D 220.29
29 So Jesus answered and said, “Assuredly, I say to you, there is no one who has left house or brothers or sisters or father or mother [c] or wife or children or [d] lands, for My sake and the gospel’s, 365D 220.30
30 who shall not receive a hundredfold now in this time—houses and brothers and sisters and mothers and children and lands, with persecutions—and in the age to come, eternal life. 365D 220.31
31 But many who are first will be last, and the last first.” 365D 220.32
