Matthew 3:1-12 365D 21.1

1 In those days John the Baptist came preaching in the wilderness of Judea, 365D 21.2

2 and saying, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand!” 365D 21.3

3 For this is he who was spoken of by the prophet Isaiah, saying: “The voice of one crying in the wilderness: ‘Prepare the way of the Lord ; Make His paths straight.’ ” 365D 21.4

4 Now John himself was clothed in camel’s hair, with a leather belt around his waist; and his food was locusts and wild honey. 365D 21.5

5 Then Jerusalem, all Judea, and all the region around the Jordan went out to him 365D 21.6

6 and were baptized by him in the Jordan, confessing their sins. 365D 21.7

7 But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees coming to his baptism, he said to them, “Brood of vipers! Who warned you to flee from the wrath to come? 365D 21.8

8 Therefore bear fruits worthy of repentance, 365D 21.9

9 and do not think to say to yourselves, ‘We have Abraham as our father.’ For I say to you that God is able to raise up children to Abraham from these stones. 365D 21.10

10 And even now the ax is laid to the root of the trees. Therefore every tree which does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. 365D 21.11

11 I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance, but He who is coming after me is mightier than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit [a] and fire. 365D 21.12

12 His winnowing fan is in His hand, and He will thoroughly clean out His threshing floor, and gather His wheat into the barn; but He will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire.” 365D 21.13

Mark 1:2-8 365D 21.14

2 As it is written in [a] the Prophets: “Behold, I send My messenger before Your face, Who will prepare Your way before You.” 365D 21.15

3 “The voice of one crying in the wilderness: ‘Prepare the way of the Lord ; Make His paths straight.’ ” 365D 21.16

4 John came baptizing in the wilderness and preaching a baptism of repentance [b] for the remission of sins. 365D 21.17

5 Then all the land of Judea, and those from Jerusalem, went out to him and were all baptized by him in the Jordan River, confessing their sins. 365D 21.18

6 Now John was clothed with camel’s hair and with a leather belt around his waist, and he ate locusts and wild honey. 365D 21.19

7 And he preached, saying, “There comes One after me who is mightier than I, whose sandal strap I am not worthy to stoop down and loose. 365D 21.20

8 I indeed baptized you with water, but He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit.” 365D 21.21

Luke 3:1-18 365D 21.22

1 Now in the fifteenth year of the reign of Tiberius Caesar, Pontius Pilate being governor of Judea, Herod being tetrarch of Galilee, his brother Philip tetrarch of Iturea and the region of Trachonitis, and Lysanias tetrarch of Abilene, 365D 21.23

2 [a] while Annas and Caiaphas were high priests, the word of God came to John the son of Zacharias in the wilderness. 365D 21.24

3 And he went into all the region around the Jordan, preaching a baptism of repentance for the remission of sins, 365D 21.25

4 as it is written in the book of the words of Isaiah the prophet, saying: “The voice of one crying in the wilderness: ‘Prepare the way of the Lord ; Make His paths straight. 365D 21.26

5 Every valley shall be filled And every mountain and hill brought low; The crooked places shall be made straight And the rough ways smooth; 365D 21.27

6 And all flesh shall see the salvation of God.’ ” 365D 21.28

7 Then he said to the multitudes that came out to be baptized by him, “Brood [b] of vipers! Who warned you to flee from the wrath to come? 365D 21.29

8 Therefore bear fruits worthy of repentance, and do not begin to say to yourselves, ‘We have Abraham as our father.’ For I say to you that God is able to raise up children to Abraham from these stones. 365D 21.30

9 And even now the ax is laid to the root of the trees. Therefore every tree which does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire.” 365D 21.31

10 So the people asked him, saying, “What shall we do then?” 365D 21.32

11 He answered and said to them, “He who has two tunics, let him give to him who has none; and he who has food, let him do likewise.” 365D 21.33

12 Then tax collectors also came to be baptized, and said to him, “Teacher, what shall we do?” 365D 21.34

13 And he said to them, “Collect no more than what is appointed for you.” 365D 21.35

14 Likewise the soldiers asked him, saying, “And what shall we do?” So he said to them, “Do not [c] intimidate anyone or accuse falsely, and be content with your wages.” 365D 21.36

15 Now as the people were in expectation, and all reasoned in their hearts about John, whether he was the Christ or not, 365D 21.37

16 John answered, saying to all, “I indeed baptize you with water; but One mightier than I is coming, whose sandal strap I am not worthy to loose. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire. 365D 21.38

17 His winnowing fan is in His hand, and He will thoroughly clean out His threshing floor, and gather the wheat into His barn; but the chaff He will burn with unquenchable fire.” 365D 21.39

18 And with many other exhortations he preached to the people. 365D 21.40
