It has been God’s purpose from the beginning of Earth’s history that humanity be dwelling places for the Holy Spirit. But sin, from which we do not repent and turn away, can separate us from God, the Spirit (Isaiah 59:1, 2). Resisting the impressions of the Holy Spirit can be spiritually fatal, as He is the agency that leads us to Jesus (John 16:13, 14), to repentance and to truth. JTLD 153.2

When Ananias and Sapphira lied to the Holy Spirit and suffered immediate death (Acts 5:1-11), Peter pointed to the divinity and personality of the Spirit. In grieving the Spirit, the pair had grieved God Himself. JTLD 153.3

Scripture warns us about grieving or quenching the Spirit of God: “Today if you hear His voice, harden not your hearts” (Hebrews 3:15). JTLD 153.4
