The hope that is the center of the unified church is the appearing of Jesus to redeem His faithful people! The unifying mission of the church is to proclaim the good news of the “blessed hope” of salvation and help others prepare for Christ’s soon return. JTLD 334.2
Through a common faith—personal belief in the atoning sacrifice of Jesus—all become part of His body. The rite of baptism that symbolizes being buried with Christ and rising to new life in Him is the expression of the believer’s faith and willingness to unite with Christ’s body, His church. Thus, together as a movement organized for service and witness, believers diffuse their shared hope wherever the Spirit provides opportunity. JTLD 334.3
