The primary function of a prophet is to hear the word of the Lord and bring it to people. Prophets are to reveal God’s plan of salvation and His character, proclaim truth, call for reformation, and prepare people to meet God. JTLD 290.2

- United and protected the church (Ephesians 4:14)
- Warned of future difficulties (Acts 11:27-30; 20:23; Acts 21:4, 10-14)
