Counsel #3 — Personal Influence

Picture: Counsel #3 — Personal Influence CCL 114.1

Many Christians find it difficult to invite non-Christians to church. When we think of Evangelism, we usually think of literature evangelism, Bible work, or preaching. But the best way to start is by simply reaching out to people we already know. Jesus began His ministry by revealing His identity to His cousin, John the Baptist. John then directed his followers to the Messiah. Andrew, who heard John the Baptist, invited his brother Peter. Philip, who was also present, invited his friend Nathanael.[142] Reaching out to those you already know is always the best place to start because you have what the public evangelist does not have - personal influence. CCL 114.2

“Philip found Nathanael and said to him, ‘We have found Him of whom Moses in the law, and also the prophets, wrote - Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph.’” John 1:45 CCL 114.3

“Let those who desire to work for God begin at home, in their own household, in their own neighborhood, among their own friends. Here they will find a favorable missionary field…The case of Philip and Nathanael is an example of true home missionary work.” Ellen White in Testimonies for the Church, vol. 6, p. 428.1, 2 CCL 114.4
