Listening is tied to respect. We listen to the words of those we respect while disregarding those we don't value. The disciples were amazed when Jesus’ words calmed storms and healed the sick. They often responded by worshipping Him. For the disciples, Jesus' words were not just mere ideas from someone they respected; His words carried transformative power. Today, even though we may not audibly hear God's voice, His words still reach us through Scripture and preaching. When we listen and allow ourselves to be changed by His words, we worship.^[132] CCL 102.2

“And after the earthquake a fire, but the LORD was not in the fire; and after the fire a still small voice. So it was, when Elijah heard it, that he wrapped his face in his mantle and went out and stood in the entrance of the cave. Suddenly a voice came to him, and said, ‘What are you doing here, Elijah?’” 1 Kings 19:12, 13 CCL 102.3

“Nothing that is sacred, nothing that pertains to the worship of God, should be treated with carelessness and indifference. When the word of life is spoken, you should remember that you are listening to the voice of God through his delegated servant.
