If a group starts meeting and jumps right into a Bible study without giving time for people to get to know each other, it can feel uncomfortable and awkward. Even if everyone already knows each other, taking some time, maybe around 25% of the meeting, for each person to share a little about themselves, their week, and any challenges they’re facing can help create a sense of connection and belonging.^[102] In the early Christian church, John wrote about the importance of fellowship when walking in the truth. So, why not make it a deliberate part of studying together? CCL 77.2

“But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin.” 1 John 1:7 CCL 77.3

“From the light which I have received, our meetings should be spiritual and social, and not too long. Reserve, pride, vanity, and fear of man, should be left at home. Little differences and prejudices should not be taken with us to these meetings. Like a united family, simplicity, meekness, mutual confidence, and love, should exist in the hearts of brethren and sisters who meet to be refreshed and invigorated by bringing their lights together.” Ellen White in Testimony for the Church, No. 20, p. 5.1 CCL 77.4
