Counsel #7 — The Preparation Day
Picture: Counsel #7 — The Preparation Day CCW 84.1
While the days of Creation week were numbers, the Lord gave names to the sixth and seventh days. The 7th day was called the “Sabbath,” while the sixth day was called the “preparation day.” Food is to be prepared on Friday (Preparation Day) for the Sabbath.[116] CCW 84.2
“And so it was, on the sixth day, that they gathered twice as much bread, two omers for each one…. Then [Moses] said to them, ‘This is what the Lord has said: ‘Tomorrow is a Sabbath rest, a holy Sabbath to the Lord. Bake what you will bake today, and boil what you will boil; and lay up for yourselves all that remains, to be kept until morning.’” Exodus 16:22, 23 NKJV CCW 84.3
“All through the week we are to have the Sabbath in mind and be making preparation to keep it according to the commandment.... No duty pertaining to the six working days will be left for the Sabbath.... Before the setting of the sun let all secular work be laid aside and all secular papers be put out of sight…. Remember that every moment is consecrated, holy time.” Ellen White in Our Father Cares, p. 73 CCW 84.4
“There is another work that should receive attention on the preparation day. On this day all differences between brethren, whether in the family or in the church, should be put away.” Ellen White in Testimonies for the Church, vol. 6, p. 356 CCW 84.5
