Counsel #6 — What’s The Urgency?

Thinking Jesus' return is far away can lead us to delay being ready. Some desire a worldly life and believe that committing to Jesus restricts their potential and happiness. However, Jesus assured His disciples that following Him brings one hundred times more blessings in this life (Mark 10:29, 30). Committing to Jesus right now and being ready for His second coming is crucial. The risk in procrastinating is dangerous and here’s why—consider this, since Jesus ascended to heaven, everyone who eagerly awaited His return, except for those alive today, has died. The real reason to be ready now is that no one is promised tomorrow—you never know when your time on earth is over. So, why not trust Jesus’ promise and embrace the best life now by fully committing to Him?[104] CCW 75.2
“Do not be overly wicked, Nor be foolish: Why should you die before your time?” Ecclesiastes 7:17 NKJV CCW 75.3
“If we tell the liquor-drinker and tobacco-devotee that his indulgence in these poisons is gradually and surely wearing away the life-forces, he will say, “I know it, but I cannot give up the indulgence. I would rather die before my time and enjoy these stimulants while I do live.” Those who are content thus to shorten their own existence must answer to God for the life which he gave them to devote wholly to his service.” Ellen White in Good Health, February 1, 1880, par. 11 CCW 75.4
Reflect: Imagine today is your last day. Are you content, or would you have lived differently? If differently, why not begin making changes now? CCW 75.5
