Counsel #7 — Living By Faith

Sometimes it’s hard to believe God has pardoned us and made us innocent. The story of the ungrateful servant is a great example of this. He owed a debt so great he’d have to live several lifetimes to pay it back. But even though the king pardoned him and erased his debt, the ungrateful servant still acted like it hadn’t really happened. He tried to extort money from someone who owed him a small amount. Perhaps he thought he could still pay the king back! His lack of faith in what the king had already done for him led him to fall into sin. True faith in the king’s pardon would have empowered him to live a new life.[83] CCW 60.2
“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law.” Galatians 5:22, 23 NKJV CCW 60.3
“By faith you became Christ's, and by faith you are to grow up in Him—by giving and taking. You are to give all,—your heart, your will, your service,—give yourself to Him to obey all His requirements; and you must take all,—Christ, the fullness of all blessing, to abide in your heart, to be your strength, your righteousness, your everlasting helper,—to give you power to obey.” Ellen White in Steps to Christ, p. 69.2 CCW 60.4
