Counsel #1 — Our Condition

In Western society, responsibility is viewed through an individualistic lens. However, the Bible speaks from a communal perspective, often emphasizing collective implications for individual actions - especially among leaders.[72] The Bible explains that no one is righteous and all die because Adam fell. But what is righteousness? While it's typically defined as being morally right, the Bible explains our situation. According to Isaiah 64:6, all our best efforts at righteousness fall short, likened to “filthy rags.” 1 John 5:17 reminds us that all unrighteousness is sin. Ephesians 2:3 says we are children of wrath by nature before conversion. This paints a challenging, almost hopeless picture, but there is still hope! While we can't manufacture righteousness on our own,[73] Jesus offers us His own perfection and sinless righteousness to those who believe and choose to follow Him.[74] Jesus interrupts the iniquity introduced by sin.[75] We are holy in Him.[76] CCW 54.2
