The book of James says that a double-minded person is unstable (James 1:8). It’s pretty obvious why that might be. How can someone with two opposing desires or opinions make any decisions at all? You can’t be a gang member and a police officer at the same time. You can’t be a prisoner and a prison warden at the same time. You can’t be an alcoholic and a sober person at the same time. When we come to Christ, we need to make similar choices. We can either be slaves to sin or slaves to righteousness. We can either be children of God or enemies of Him. Although we may fall and stumble, surrender means putting our lives on the side of Christ and walking away from things that do not harmonize with that choice.^[39] CCW 24.2
