Counsel #7 — She Comforts The Church

Sometimes Christians can become discouraged. “Where is the promise of His coming?” people ask.[260] Perhaps some begin to wonder if God has forgotten His church or if the biblical message was even true after all.[261] When John the Baptist was left isolated and alone in prison, he also wondered if the message that had been given to him was true. If it was, why had God seemingly abandoned and forgotten him? However, just as Jesus comforted John the Baptist with a message of hope, He also seeks to comfort His church today. CCW 178.2

“‘Comfort, yes, comfort My people!’ Says your God.” Isaiah 40:1 NKJV CCW 178.3

“God has, in that Word, promised to give visions in the ‘last days’; not for a new rule of faith, but for the comfort of His people, and to correct those who err from Bible truth.” Ellen White in Early Writings, p. 78.1 CCW 178.4

Reflect: How does the promise of Christ’s soon return comfort Christians today? CCW 178.5
