We’ve covered numerous brief examples of a larger amount of evidence proving the catastrophic global flood described in Genesis really happened. Most of the rock layers and fossils were formed during this brief worldwide event. Rapid flow of vast bodies of water destroyed the original landscape, carrying sediment and animals, depositing them over vast areas of the globe. The flood was not a simple process. Volcanoes erupted, and massive lava flows covered the land surface in many places. Meteorites struck the earth. Continents moved around, breaking into large plates that still exist today. Huge jets of water and steam burst into the air and fell as heavy rain. Continents sank and then rose again, eventually emerging above the floodwater. We don’t know where the continents and the oceans were before the flood. Some believe that continent-sized masses of the earth’s crust sank into the mantle. The rock layers in the geological column formed one on top of another, and then partly eroded to create our modern landscapes. Finally, the catastrophic action slowed, making the earth inhabitable again.[226] CCW 151.2

“But these people don’t want to remember what happened long ago. The skies were there, and God made the earth from water and with water. All this happened by God’s word. Then the world was flooded and destroyed with water.” 2 Peter 3:5, 6 CCW 151.3

“Above the roar of the tempest was heard the wailing of a people that had despised the authority of God.” Ellen White in Patriarchs and Prophets, p. 99 CCW 151.4

Reflect: Do you struggle with believing God’s word about the Bible’s flood account? If so, go deep and ask yourself why. CCW 151.5
