Counsel #12 — Global Rock-Layer Consistency
Picture: Counsel #12 — Global Rock-Layer Consistency CCW 149.1
If the biblical flood covered the entire earth, shouldn’t there be rock layers spread over much of the earth? Yes, and there are. Derek Ager, a British geologist, who believes in naturalistic theory, traveled the world to compare geology in many different countries. He documented numerous instances in which the same geological formation occurred widely across the globe in the same part of the geological column. For example, the Cretaceous white cliffs of Dover in Britain, are composed of chalk containing characteristic fossils. This formation is also found in Egypt, Israel, the southern United States, and Australia, all in the same part of the geological column. Ager wondered why rock formations in Australia were like those in Europe from the same time period, instead of being influenced by local conditions in Australia. This and other formations, also found worldwide, are best explained by the biblical global flood. As a naturalist, Dr. Ager cannot easily explain his findings because they do not fit his worldview; he warned creationists not to use his evidence to support their theories.[224] CCW 149.2
“Foolish people don’t want to understand. They take delight in saying only what they think.” Proverbs 18:2 NIRV CCW 149.3
“Because the Creator and His works are so far beyond their comprehension that they are unable to explain them by natural laws, they regard Bible history as unreliable.” Ellen White in Patriarchs and Prophets, p. 113 CCW 149.4
Reflect: Why do you think earth scientists, and many others, resist considering questions and evidence supporting the validity of a biblical global-flood account? CCW 149.5
