Today, new deposits of sediment are formed by rivers, ocean currents, flash floods, and similar familiar processes. Sediment transfer left by river floods or flash floods in the desert can be problematic, but comparatively minuscule next to the thick deposits of sediments in many rock formations that cover a hundred thousand square miles or much more. Accepted geology theory,[210] allows recognition of modest catastrophes, but none on a large-scale basis. This is because ancient rock formations must, according to naturalistic theory,[211] be explained only by the types of geological processes that occur today. But if we open our eyes and study diligently, naturalism doesn’t fit the evidence. Modern rivers and devastating floods produce complex deposits over limited areas. The abundant rock formations that cover from thousands to hundreds of thousands of square miles cannot be explained by river deposits or other modern geological processes. A true catastrophe is not only rapid but can spread sediment over enormous areas. The flood described in Genesis is the only realistic explanation for most of the geological record.[212] CCW 142.3

“The waters completely inundated the earth so that even all the high mountains under the entire sky were covered. The waters rose more than 20 feet above the mountains.” Genesis 7:19, 20 CCW 142.4

“At the flood the surface of the earth was broken up, marked changes took place, and in the re-formation of the earth's crust were preserved many evidences of the life previously existing.” Ellen White in Education, p. 129 CCW 142.5
