Counsel #10 — Selective Interbreeding Is Not Evolution

Dogs reveal fascinating insights about genetics and animal changes. Originally, domesticated from wolves (or animals very similar to wolves), dogs now have several hundred breeds, some drastically different from their wolf ancestors. Consider the diversity among breeds like German Shepherds, Chihuahuas, Bulldogs, Poodles, and Whippets, all products of selective breeding. That amount of change could never happen, even given two millennia. The history of most dog breeds is well-documented, with a couple hundred breeds developing over the past two centuries. Despite their differences, all dogs are the same species and can interbreed, illustrating that this variation is not evolution by random mutations. The extensive genetic information for these changes existed from the beginning, a testament to the Creator’s foresight in providing for human’s need of companionship, protection, and all the things dogs do so well. This suggests that the only evolution observed in any animal group operates within the genetic potential God established at creation.[50] CSe 50.2

“Those who take the written word as their counselor will find in science an aid to understand God. ‘The invisible things of Him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead.’” Ellen White in CSe 50.4
