Justice and mercy are not mere ideals but integral parts of our faith. At the heart of Isaiah's message of Isaiah 58 lies a crucial truth: true spiritual liberation is inextricably linked to the act of freeing others from literal oppression. Isaiah condemns empty fasting and religious performances while the hungry go unfed, the homeless unhoused, and the enslaved remain bound.[101] CSI 64.2

Isaiah uses the powerful metaphor of broken yokes (Isaiah 58:6) to symbolize the dismantling of systems that keep people trapped in poverty, injustice, and discrimination. This includes advocating for fair wages, equal access to resources, and dismantling discriminatory policies. CSI 64.3

“He has shown you, O man, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you but to do justly, to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God?” Micah 6:8 NKJV CSI 64.4

“Search heaven and earth, and there is no truth revealed more powerful than that which is made manifest in works of mercy to those who need our sympathy and aid. This is the truth as it is in Jesus. When those who profess the name of Christ shall practice the principles of the golden rule, the same power will attend the gospel as in apostolic times.” Ellen White in Thoughts from the Mount of Blessing, p. 137 CSI 64.5
