Being introduced to porn by a family member can be an extremely emotional event in someone’s life, especially if done during the formative years. Such exposure, whether intentional or by accident, can cause a child to feel so confused that their curiosity leads them to seek more graphic images or videos as they age and mature. CLi 91.2
Although a lot of young adults are exposed to porn through their peers or on the internet, the involvement of a trusted family member complicates the situation even more due to a breach of trust, power dynamics, or even coercion. Experiences like this can affect a person’s point of view regarding healthy boundaries later in life, and the development of self-esteem and control issues may even arise despite being surrounded by a healthy support system. Many times, healing will require professional counseling and spiritual-based practices that can heal the heart and rewire the brain. Turning to God for restoration is the first step.[82] CLi 91.3
