Counsel #6 — Socializing In The Family

Picture: Counsel #6 — Socializing In The Family CLi 8.1

Successful parents provide happy social interactions with their children. Never be too busy to read and cuddle with your children, play games with them, pray with them, and talk to them about Jesus. A loving bond established between parent and child, particularly in the early years, sets the stage for the success of a child’s social development, having a life-long positive impact. CLi 8.2

Parents who are harsh or emotionally detached from their children negatively affect their social and emotional development in significant ways. Conversely, children who observe their parents socialize easily with others, seeking to serve and provide for others’ spiritual, emotional, and physical needs are more likely to become caring adults themselves.[6] CLi 8.3

“As a father shows compassion to his children, so the Lord shows compassion to those who fear him.” Psalms 103:13 ESV CLi 8.4

“Give some of your leisure hours to your children; associate with them in their work and in their sports, and win their confidence. Cultivate their friendship.” Ellen White in The Adventist Home, p. 192 CLi 8.5

Reflect: What are the most meaningful times you’ve spent with your parents/care-givers? If you are a parent, how often do you engage in happy social interactions with your children — like reading, playing, talking, or if your children are older, texting, etc.? CLi 8.6
