Counsel #6 — Clothed With Inner Beauty

Picture: Counsel #6 — Clothed With Inner Beauty CLi 61.1

Both men and women are tempted to use clothes and accessories to impress others or disguise the ugliness of a selfish heart.[55] But God looks right through our superficiality to the inner person (see 1 Samuel 16:7). It is more difficult to build character than to maintain an illusion of beauty through fashion. Fortunately, God promises to help. We can do all things through Him who strengthens us (Philippians 4:19)! CLi 61.2

“Do not let your adornment be merely outward—arranging the hair, wearing gold, or putting on fine apparel—rather let it be the hidden person of the heart, with the incorruptible beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is very precious in the sight of God.” 1 Peter 3:3, 4 NKJV CLi 61.3

“God, who created everything lovely and beautiful that the eye rests upon, is a lover of the beautiful. He shows you how He estimates true beauty. The ornament of a meek and quiet spirit is in His sight of great price. Shall we not seek earnestly to gain that which God estimates as more valuable than costly dress or pearls or gold?” Ellen White in Lift Him Up, p. 305 CLi 61.4

Reflect: How you respond to people who hold a completely different viewpoint than your own says a lot about your inner spirit. Does your heart need a makeover? CLi 61.5
