Counsel #2 — Created To Be Social

Picture: Counsel #2 — Created To Be Social CLi 4.1

God made people to be social. He did not intend for people to live in isolation. God is relational; He exists in Trinity; thus, since we are created in His image, we are also to live in relationship with others (Genesis 1:27). CLi 4.2

Sometimes young people socialize almost exclusively with other young people, but intergenerational socialization can be the most enriching. It’s OK to hang out sometimes with older people! In fact, having an experienced mentor or coach to impart wisdom, support, and spiritual encouragement can be one of the best investments of time a young person can ever make.[2] CLi 4.3

“Is not wisdom found among the aged? Does not long life bring understanding?” Job 12:12 NIV CLi 4.4

“We sustain a loss when we neglect the privilege of associating together to strengthen and encourage one another in the service of God… He who shuts himself up to himself is not filling the position that God designed he should. The proper cultivation of social elements in our nature brings us into sympathy with others and is a means of development and strength to us in the service of God.” Ellen White in Steps to Christ, p. 101 CLi 4.5

Reflect: Do you have (or have you had) a mentor, or special friendship with someone much older than you? If so, what benefits have you experienced from that relationship? CLi 4.6
