Counsels on Future Life
Counsel #1 — The Sunday Law Definition

God has sanctified, made holy, and set apart the seventh day for divine worship and rest from secular activities (see Genesis 2:1-3; Exodus 20:8-11; Ezekiel 20:12, 20). Shortly before Jesus comes again, Protestants, Catholics, and Spiritualists will form a coalition in the United States to urge legislation of worship on Sunday, the first day of the week. The mandating of Sunday as the day to worship God will spread throughout the world. CFL 51.2
Because the papacy has declared for itself authority to change the observance of the seventh-day Sabbath to the first-day Sunday, Sundaykeeping made law is an enforcement of the worship of the papacy, rather than God. Those who comply with this legislation instead of obeying God’s fourth commandment will be making an image to the beast, or the papacy.[48] CFL 51.3
“And he deceives those who dwell on the earth by those signs which he was granted to do in the sight of the beast, telling those who dwell on the earth to make an image to the beast who was wounded by the sword and lived.” Revelation 13:14 NKJV CFL 51.4
“When our nation shall so abjure [shun] the principles of its government as to enact a Sunday law Protestantism will in this act join hands with popery.” Ellen White in Testimonies for the Church, vol. 5, p. 712 CFL 51.5
Reflect: How are you preparing yourself spiritually to obey God’s commandments when Sunday worship is legislated? CFL 51.6
