Counsels on Future Life
Counsel #3 — Second Angel’s Message
Picture: Counsel #3 — Second Angel’s Message CFL 45.1
The second angel’s message announces the fall of all religious systems that contain false doctrines, including belief in the immortality of the soul, Sunday sacredness, and non-belief in Jesus’ second coming. The term “Babylon” is derived from “Babel” and signifies confusion. CFL 45.2
Early Adventists applied the second angel’s message to those who refused the light of the advent message. However, the fall of Babylon, or false religion, is progressive and will be ultimately fulfilled in the future when unfaithful churches unite with the state to create laws against fourth commandment observance. The substance of the second angel’s message will be given again by the “other angel” who lightens the earth just before the coming of Christ with the call to leave Babylon (see Revelation 18:1-5).[41] CFL 45.3
“And another angel followed, saying, ‘Babylon is fallen, is fallen, that great city, because she made all nations drink of the wine of the wrath of her fornication.’” Revelation 14:8 NKJV CFL 45.4
“Babylon is represented as holding a wine cup in her hand, from which she makes all nations drink. The nations commit spiritual fornication by divorcing themselves from God and trampling on His commandments.” Ellen White in Letter 28, 1900, par. 5 CFL 45.5
