Developing problem-solving skills when dealing with stress is a powerful way to improve decision-making and boost confidence when handling challenges. Whenever you’re faced with stress, breaking down each situation’s problems into manageable steps reduces overwhelming feelings and frustration. CWe 83.2
One of the most effective problem-solving strategies is the IDEAL method. With this approach, the first step is to identify the problem. For example, is the stress linked to a person or a situation? Next, define possible solutions. This step involves logical analysis to explore ways to best address the issue. After brainstorming multiple options, evaluate the best choice according to your situation. Then, act on that choice and be confident in your decision. Lastly, learn from whatever outcome or consequence comes from the decision you made—whether good or bad. Within all these steps, include God in your reflection process, for only He can provide the best advice and insight from the Holy Spirit into how to navigate life’s most demanding challenges.[98] CWe 83.3
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.” Proverbs 3:5, 6 NIV CWe 83.4
“We must labor to have… strong minds that are not easily enfeebled… that look… to the cause and result of every movement made…. We need minds that can see difficulties and go through with them with the wisdom that comes from God, that can wrestle with hard problems and conquer them.” Ellen White in Letter 43, 1899 CWe 83.5
