Counsel #12 — Breaking Free From The Adrenaline Rush

Picture: Counsel #12 — Breaking Free From The Adrenaline Rush CWe 59.1

The human thirst for adventure is a gift, but like any gift, it can be misused. For some, the thrill of pushing boundaries morphs into an addiction to adrenaline, a relentless chase for the next heart-stopping high. From a Christian perspective, this pursuit can be a symptom of a deeper void. We are created for a life of purpose and for a deep connection with Jesus. When we chase adrenaline highs, it can become a way to self-medicate, a search for significance outside of God's plan of service to others. CWe 59.2

A constant pursuit of danger can breed conflict within yourself and with those who love you. It can also lead to a prideful belief in your own invincibility, a dangerous illusion that ignores your human limitations. Some experts warn that the constant need for adrenaline can morph into a dangerous dependency, mimicking the addictive qualities of drugs.[71] CWe 59.3

The rush of adrenaline can be a powerful draw, but you can also find fulfillment, not from defying danger, but from personal growth and living a life that resonates with God. CWe 59.4

“One who is wise is cautious and turns away from evil, but a fool is reckless and careless.” Proverbs 14:16 ESV CWe 59.5

“If you would find happiness and peace in all you do, you must do everything in reference to the glory of God.” Ellen White in Lift Him Up, p. 91 CWe 59.6
