Counsel #6 — Hungering For Jesus
Picture: Counsel #6 — Hungering For Jesus CWe 53.1
After contemplating Jesus’ great love on Calvary's cross, we are inspired to align our desires with God's purpose. When we begin to wrap our hearts around the enormity of that love, we start to recognize the fleeting nature of earthly pleasures while cultivating a hunger to be with Jesus for eternity. As we learn to control our physical appetites by the power of God's Spirit, we begin to live a life that truly glorifies Him.[63] CWe 53.2
“Christ’s love ‘constrains’ us… then all have died.” How about this version: “The love of Christ controls us, because we know that one person died for everyone. So all have died. He died for all so that those who live would not continue to live for themselves.” 2 Corinthians 5:14 ERV CWe 53.3
“The theme that attracts the heart of the sinner is Christ, and Him crucified. On the cross of Calvary, Jesus stands revealed to the world in unparalleled love. Present Him thus to the hungering multitudes, and the light of His love will win men from darkness to light, from transgression to obedience and true holiness. Beholding Jesus upon the cross of Calvary arouses the conscience to the heinous character of sin as nothing else can do.” Ellen White in Maranatha, p. 99 CWe 53.4
