Dictionary.com defines trust as “1. reliance on the integrity, strength, ability, surety, etc., of a person or thing; confidence. 2. confident expectation of something; hope. 3. a person on whom or thing on which one relies.” In our context, it is God on whom we are relying. CWe 3.2
The death of Jesus on our behalf on the cross of Calvary is the basis for our trust in God. When we finally recognize that Someone loves us enough, values us enough, cares enough for us to die to save us, love and trust spring up! As we keep faith alive through the power of God, our trust in Him grows. We learn to rest in His love.[1] CWe 3.3
“Trust in God; trust also in Me.” John 14:1 NIV CWe 3.4
“We can do nothing, absolutely nothing, to commend ourselves to divine favor. We must not trust at all to ourselves nor to our good works; but when as erring, sinful beings we come to Christ, we may find rest in His love…. There may be no ecstasy of feeling, but there is an abiding, peaceful trust.” Ellen White in Selected Messages, bk. 1, p. 353 CWe 3.5
