Our awareness of our inability to conquer sin on our own draws us to seek help from our Savior and His Word. Jesus instructs us to pray in His name, but to truly pray in His name means aligning our minds and hearts with His, trusting in His promises, relying on His grace, and actively carrying out His work.[123] CSL 104.2
Here are several Bible promises about overcoming sin: CSL 104.3
- “Now thanks be to God who always leads us in triumph in Christ.” 2 Corinthians 2:14 NKJV
- “For in that He Himself has suffered, being tempted, He is able to aid those who are tempted.” Hebrews 2:18 NKJV
- “For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin. Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.” Hebrews 4:15, 16 NKJV
- “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” Philippians 4:13 NKJV
“Now to Him who is able to keep you from stumbling, and to present you faultless before the presence of His glory with exceeding joy.” Jude 1:24 NKJV CSL 104.4
