The Spirit infuses spiritual life into the soul. That infusion brings joy and increased faith as we yield up our long-idolized habits that have brought separation from Christ (see Isaiah 59:2). What does it mean to have a new heart, to be re-created in Jesus’ image?[68] It means to take our affections away from the things of the world and fasten them on Jesus. Having a new mind, new purposes, new motives — is a sign of a new heart. CSL 68.2
“If you keep my commandments, you will abide in My love, just as I have kept My Father’s commandments and abide in His love. These things I have spoken to you, that My joy may remain in you, and that your joy will be full.” John 15:10, 11 NKJV CSL 68.3
“The religion of Jesus gives peace like a river. It does not quench the light of joy; it does not restrain cheerfulness nor cloud the sunny, smiling face. Christ came not to be ministered unto but to minister; and when His love reigns in the heart, we shall follow His example.” Ellen White in Steps to Christ, p. 120.4 CSL 68.4
