Counsel #24 — Prayer

Picture: Counsel #24 — Prayer CSL 41.1

Think about your best friend. You probably tell them about your day, your worries, your happy moments, everything! That's because you have a close connection, and talking keeps that connection strong and makes it even deeper. CSL 41.2

Prayer is simply talking to Jesus. We can open our hearts to Him just like we would to that best friend. We can share anything and everything with Him — our joys, our fears, our thankfulness, even when we mess up. He's always listening, and He cares deeply. CSL 41.3

It's an amazing gift — a real privilege — that we can be in continual contact with Jesus, who is not just anyone, but our Lord, our King, our Savior and Friend all rolled into one! Talking to Him through prayer isn't just something we should do; it's something we get to do because He loves us and wants to be close to us.24 CSL 41.4

“The Lord is near to all who call on him, to all who call on him in truth.” Psalms 145:18 ESV CSL 41.5

“Prayer is the opening of the heart to God as to a friend. Of course we do not need to tell God about ourselves, for He already knows everything. But we pray to help us know Him and be able to receive Him. Prayer does not bring God down to us; it brings us up to Him.” Ellen White in Steps to Jesus, p. 92 CSL 41.6

Reflect: How comfortable do you feel being open and honest with Jesus in your prayers? CSL 41.7
