Counsel of Spiritual Life
Counsel #22 — Uncertainty about Relationship
Picture: Counsel #22 — Uncertainty about Relationship CSL 39.1
Sometimes Christians might feel unsure about their relationship with Jesus, even after committing their lives to Him. However, the Bible offers great comfort and certainty. Jesus promises that if we come to Him for help with our sin problem, He will never cast us away.20 When we fall and need to seek forgiveness, God does not reject us. CSL 39.2
One of my favorite promises is “These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life...” (emphasis supplied).21 We can find assurance of salvation in the promises of God!22 CSL 39.3
“He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ.” Philippians 1:6 NKJV CSL 39.4
“There are those who have known the pardoning love of Christ and who really desire to be children of God, yet they realize that their character is imperfect, their life faulty, and they are ready to doubt whether their hearts have been renewed by the Holy Spirit. To such I would say, Do not draw back in despair. We shall often have to bow down and weep at the feet of Jesus because of our shortcomings and mistakes, but we are not to be discouraged. Even if we are overcome by the enemy, we are not cast off, not forsaken and rejected by God.” Ellen White in Steps to Christ, pp. 63, 64 CSL 39.5
Reflect: Even when "overcome by the enemy, we are not cast off.” What does this truth mean for you amid spiritual uncertainty? CSL 39.6
