Counsel #18 — Born Again
Picture: Counsel #18 — Born Again CMH 100.1
Picture this: Nicodemus, a well-educated religious leader, slips away in the quiet of night to talk with Jesus. He had status, knowledge, and influence, but something was missing. As they spoke, Jesus introduced a concept that rocked his understanding: “You must be born again.” CMH 100.2
Like Nicodemus, many are confused by this statement. How can someone re-enter their mother’s womb? But Jesus wasn’t talking about physical birth. He was speaking of a spiritual rebirth. This “new birth experience” is the transformation that happens when you believe in Christ, surrender your old ways, and allow the Holy Spirit to renew your heart. Even if you memorize Scripture and attend church services, until you actually have a personal encounter with Jesus - where your heart is changed, priorities shift, and a new life is led by the Spirit — your new birth hasn’t truly begun. It’s in the quiet moments alone with Jesus where true transformation begins, setting you on a path toward living in eternity with God.4 CMH 100.3
“Jesus replied, “Very truly I tell you, no one can see the kingdom of God unless they are born again.” John 3:3 NIV CMH 100.4
“Our hearts must be renewed by divine grace; we must have a new life from above. This change is the new birth, without which, says Jesus, we “cannot see the kingdom of God.” Ellen White in Homeward Bound , p. 103 CMH 100.5
