Do you ever feel like you’re constantly adjusting yourself to meet someone else’s expectations? It’s easy to slip into the habit of people-pleasing, especially in a world where everyone seems to have an opinion about how a woman should dress, speak, think, or live. CI 128.2
Spiritually, Scripture calls you to a higher standard: “Do not conform to the pattern of this world but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.”[136] A woman who thinks independently and is anchored in God’s truth isn’t swayed by the shifting tides of public opinion. She seeks wisdom, not applause, and she listens to God before anyone else. This kind of independent thinking doesn’t mean you’re defiant or rebellious. It means you know who you are in Christ and can make decisions based on conviction rather than fear or popularity. God expects women in Christ to pray before they post, pause before they react, and bring all concerns to Him before making any decision. A woman who thinks for herself isn’t ruled by what others think because she lives in reverence to the One who made her.[137] CI 128.3
