Counsel #22 — Godly Qualities

Have you ever wondered where a mother’s fierce love, tender comfort, or tireless protection comes from? Genesis 1:27 says both men and women are created in the image of God, so it only makes sense that God embodies both masculine and feminine qualities. CI 122.2
In fact, Scripture paints a vivid picture of God’s nurturing, compassionate, and even mother-like nature. He holds up His people like a mother eagle lifts her young to soar,[123] He nurtures with the gentle care of a midwife who’s there from the first breath,[124] and He comforts like a mother soothing her child after a long day, wrapping us in safety and understanding.[125] Additionally, His love burns with the passion of a mother bear protecting her cubs,[126] and He grieves over the lost with the same urgency as a woman searching her home for precious coins.[127] These aren’t metaphors to dismiss. They are glimpses into the fullness of who God is. If you’ve ever felt unseen or misunderstood in your womanhood, take heart in knowing you reflect the almighty God—Creator of the universe, Creator of you![128] CI 122.3
“I have longed to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings...” Luke 13:34 NIV CI 122.4
“The most tender love we know is that of a mother for her child, but the love of Jesus exceeds this.” Ellen White in Letter 48, 1896, par. 2 CI 122.5
