Counsels on Self-Identity
Counsel #13 — Loyalty
Picture: Counsel #13 — Loyalty CI 113.1
Loyalty doesn’t shine the brightest when everything is perfect. It shines when things are messy. For example, loyalty proves most important when your spouse forgets the little things, or when your friend lets you down. CI 113.2
That’s where loyalty proves itself - not in feelings, but in faithfulness. Biblical femininity is deeply tied to this kind of steadfast love. Ruth didn’t leave Naomi, even when it would’ve been easier. She stayed and honored their bond. Because of this, God honored her loyalty by weaving her story into the lineage of Jesus. In life, loyalty isn’t about blind agreement or ignoring pain. It’s about staying rooted in your commitments, praying through tension, and showing up despite circumstances. In addition, it means choosing forgiveness over offense, presence over convenience, and truth over gossip. God sees and honors loyalty because He embodies it. As our Creator, He never gives up on us even when we wander. When you love like that, and when you’re faithful in your relationships, you’re reflecting His heart.[114] CI 113.3
“Let love and faithfulness never leave you; bind them around your neck, write them on the tablet of your heart.” Proverbs 3:3 NIV CI 113.4
“The Lord abhors indifference and disloyalty in a time of crisis in His work.” Ellen White in Christian Service, p. 236 CI 113.5
Reflect: In your life, where is God calling you to choose loyalty, even when it’s not easy? CI 113.6
