Counsel #8 — Strength in Weakness

Somewhere along the way, many women learn that “softness” gets you hurt. Maybe it was rejection from someone you trusted, abandonment by a parent, or the slow erosion of self-worth through constant criticism. CI 108.2

When these things happen, what do most women do? They toughen up, build walls, and promise to never let themselves be put in such a vulnerable position again. Although this reaction seems instinctive, protecting your heart can sometimes lead to hardening it too. The good news is that’s not how God designed women. For example, look at Hannah, who wept bitterly before the Lord because of her infertility. She didn’t hide her pain. She poured it out honestly, and God honored her vulnerability, not just by answering her prayer, but by using her story to birth the prophet Samuel, a key figure in Israel’s history. Contrast this with culture, where most women act overly independent, emotionally detached, or even aggressive in relationships. In doing this, they forfeit something sacred - the ability to be a refuge for others and to nurture. Today, God wants you to know that vulnerability isn’t a liability. It’s your offering.[109] CI 108.3

“He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.” Psalms 147:3 NIV CI 108.4

“God calls for earnest women workers, workers who are prudent, warmhearted, tender, and true to principle.” Ellen White in Evangelism, p. 478 CI 108.5

Reflect: Where have you seen vulnerability as weakness, and how might God use it as strength? CI 108.6
