Counsel #3 — Vulnerability Fears

Many of us value transparency and vulnerability in others, but we’re fearful about practicing it ourselves. Some people fear being vulnerable lest they be hurt by the people to whom they are showing vulnerability. Others are insecure about their identity and they’re scared that being vulnerable will leave them defenseless and weak. Still others fear losing respect if they let people know too much about them. When we begin to understand God’s unconditional love — a love that will never reject or abandon us [101] — we can be ourselves in the presence of others without fear, even if they reject us.[96] CI 100.3

“There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves torment. But he who fears has not been made perfect in love.” 1 John 4:18 NKJV CI 100.4

“With a sense that Jesus is by your side, you will have cheerfulness, hope, courage and joy…Never, never separate from Jesus. He never separates from us. By the cross of Calvary He has given evidence of His deep love for us. He does not leave us to fight the battle in our own finite strength.” Ellen White in Our High Calling, p. 147 CI 100.5
