Man’s first role is one of union with his Creator through faith. He is to “do justly, love mercy, and walk humbly with God” (Micah 6:8). Additionally, Scripture appointed the father as head or priest of the household at the inception of sin (a role of service and sacrifice as Christ is sacrificially head of the church Ephesians 5:25). 1 Timothy 5:8 also speaks of a man’s role as provider for his family, which can include financial provision as well as emotional, spiritual, and physical nurture.^[72] CI 75.2

Many traditional or societal roles for men are based on culture and social constructs and are not Scriptural. For instance, there is nothing unbiblical about a man being the primary child-care provider or fulfilling other truly neutral roles that have traditionally been filled by women. Circumstances, preferences, and roles vary from individual to individual, family to family. CI 75.3
