To be transgender is to have an internal sense of gender that’s opposed to your biological gender. It differs from homosexuality, though at times there is overlap. Of course, the word “transgender” isn’t mentioned in the Bible, so we must look thoughtfully for principles to guide in this discussion.[59] What is the relationship between transgenderism and the church? CI 60.2

The privilege of the church is to welcome every person into its community of fellowship, wherever they are in their spiritual journey. Because circumstances differ, the decision to accept a transgender individual into membership via baptism is determined by the local pastor and the church board. CI 60.3

“Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.” Romans 12:2 NKJV CI 60.4

“In our hardest and most trying paths, lo, Jesus is with us to smooth the way. He is the same Son of man, with the same sympathies and love which He had before He passed through the tomb and ascended to His Father.” Ellen White in Bible Commentary, vol. 5, p. 1125.13
