Counsel #2 — God Created Social Beings

Picture: Counsel #2 — God created social beings CR 12.1

God made human beings social — He made you social. He did not intend for you, or anyone else, to live in isolation. God Himself is relational; He exists in Trinity; three Persons constantly in communication and communion with each other. And, since we are created in His image, we also thrive when we live in relationship with others (Genesis 1:27).[10] CR 12.2

Sometimes, it’s more comfortable to socialize with people your own age, but intergenerational socialization can be very enriching. Spend some time with people who are younger or older than you. If you know an older person who would be willing to mentor or coach you, confide in them, ask them for advice. Appreciate the wisdom, support, and spiritual encouragement they give. Spending time with them could be one of the best time investments you ever make. CR 12.3

“Is not wisdom found among the aged? Does not long life bring understanding?” Job 12:12 NIV CR 12.4

“We sustain a loss when we neglect the privilege of associating together to strengthen and encourage one another in the service of God… He who shuts himself up to himself is not filling the position that God designed he should. The proper cultivation of social elements in our nature brings us into sympathy with others and is a means of development and strength to us in the service of God.” Ellen White in Steps to Christ, p. 101 CR 12.5

Reflect: What can you do to broaden your social interactions and create relationships that reflect God’s character? CR 12.6
