Counsel #20 — Boundaries And Balance

Picture: Counsel #20 — Boundaries and Balance CR 38.1

Maintaining boundaries in friendships is crucial, especially when it comes to sharing personal life details. While openness with certain vulnerabilities promotes connection, over-sharing can strain relationships, lead to misunderstandings, or even burden friends unintentionally. CR 38.2

Before you open up about whatever is on your mind, first consult God about what He wants you to share — many details are meant only for God’s ears due to the sensitivity of the topic. Why is asking God for discernment regarding what to share about your personal life important? Think of it this way. Whatever you share will almost always be followed by advice on how to handle the situation, which is a dangerous freedom to give to just anyone with an ear to listen. Some situations don’t require a response, but to only “be still” and let God work on your behalf. Considering this, make sure you thoughtfully and intentionally choose what to share and who to share it with, for safeguarding your mental well-being is something God requires to avoid unnecessary negative consequences.[38] CR 38.3

“Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.” Proverbs 4:23 NIV CR 38.4

“We must have implicit trust in God's Word, or we are lost. The words of men, however great they may be, are not able to make us perfect, to thoroughly furnish unto all good works.” Ellen White in Ye Shall Receive Power, p. 104 CR 38.5

Reflect: Do you share everything about your life with your friends? CR 38.6
