When COVID-19 hit, offices around the world shut their doors almost overnight, and the remote work era was born. At first, many people loved the idea! No commutes, pajamas during meetings, and more flexibility. Surprisingly, as weeks turned into months, working from home made relationships harder to build. The casual conversations at the coffee pot, the quick check-ins after a meeting, or the friendly smiles across a cubicle were suddenly gone. CR 350.2
That’s why in today’s remote or hybrid workplace, connection must be created with intention. Regular video calls with cameras on, quick personal check-ins before diving into business, or even virtual team-building activities can restore some of what’s missing. It might feel awkward at first, but simple acts like remembering birthdays, sharing hobbies, or even chatting about pets on Zoom make colleagues feel seen as people, not just coworkers. Technology may keep us connected, but it’s empathy, intentionality, and kindness that truly make us a team. In a post-COVID world, being the person who promotes connection can be one of the greatest gifts you bring to your workplace.[366] CR 350.3
