Counsel #25 — Faithful Friendships

Picture: Counsel #25 — Faithful Friendships CR 27.1

The people you spend the most time with will have a direct influence on your thoughts, values, and choices. It’s true, finding good friends is extremely hard nowadays, but the best thing you can do is surround yourself with people who encourage you to grow spiritually, make better decisions, and stay grounded in your beliefs. CR 27.2

In other words, as Christians, we should primarily be seeking out Christian friends to connect with. This doesn’t mean you can only be friends with Christians as it’s important to show kindness and build connections with people from all backgrounds. But your inner circle, the people you trust most and seek advice from, should always reflect godly values. Christian friends can pray with you, offer wise counsel, and hold you accountable when you face challenges. They’ll support you in difficult times by reminding you of your purpose in God and that God loves you despite harsh circumstances. Most importantly, true Christian friends will never pressure you to do anything contrary to the Word of God. Building these kinds of friendships will help shape you into the person God created you to be.18 CR 27.3

“Do not be misled: Bad company corrupts good character.” 1 Corinthians 15:33 NIV CR 27.4

“The purity and soundness of our religious life is dependent not only on the truth we accept, but on the company we keep…” Ellen White in Our High Calling, p. 255 CR 27.5

Reflect: What do you value most in your friends? Are your closest friends close to Jesus? CR 27.6
