The Promise is the second episode in The Conflict saga, being an adaptation of Prophets and Kings by Ellen G. White. This new work features all the stories and applications of the original book, chronicling the epic battle between Christ and Satan for the hearts and minds of human beings and the unfallen worlds. Contemporary language, phraseology, and the New King James Version have been used to appeal to today’s youth and young adult readers. New artwork beautifully captures the theme of each chapter, adding a wonderful visual dimension to the series. 2TC 5.2

In The Promise we encounter the prophecies of Old Testament prophets who pointed to the coming Messiah. We learn about the all-powerful God of Heaven, as well as the rebellious nations that tried to usurp His authority with their powerless gods and idols. As we near the Second Coming of Jesus, Satan’s influencers impress young minds with modern idols in his effort to distract, degrade, and destroy them. Today’s idols of fashion, sports, celebrities, and entertainment are delivered to us by “smart” devices that give Satan almost constant access to our hearts and minds. 2TC 5.3

If we neglect God’s Word and His inspired counsels, we forfeit His loving guidance, correction, and restraint. This is what Satan desires most. This was the fate of many peoples and nations in the Old Testament. Satan tempts us with a false freedom that shackles, while God offers us true freedom that releases us to be all He created us to be. The scattered seeds of passion will result in a harvest of moral corruption, but the carefully planted seeds of obedience to God and His law will reap a harvest of bountiful blessings! 2TC 6.1

The Promise reminds us that while God always seeks to reconcile sinners, He will not be mocked by rebellion, even among His chosen people. When the Israelites turned their backs on Him, adopting the sinful practices of neighboring ungodly nations, God humbled them. Apostasy and open rebellion led to national ruin and eventual exile. Today a similar pattern is playing out in the world as the majority reject God and His law; but there is hope. God had a faithful, obedient remnant then, and He has one now! The Promise tells the story of those who honor God amid idolatry and sin! 2TC 6.2

Ellen G. White examines these and other critical issues with profound insight into the providential workings of God in the Old Testament. She reveals the philosophical and historical context of Biblical events, while also emphasizing their timeless relevance and application to our own lives. She extols the need for mighty men and women who will stand for truth and honor God’s commands. She challenges youth and young adults to love God with all their heart and exalt His Word as the supreme rule of their lives. As they walk with God, strengthening each other, He will prepare them for the final battle when Christ vanquishes the devil and evil will be no more. 2TC 6.3
