Significance of a Seal

What is the purpose of a sign, or seal? BR-ASI9 309.1

“Now, O king, establish the decree, and sign the writing, that it be not changed.” Daniel 6:8. BR-ASI9 309.2

Note.—That is, affix the signature of royalty, that it may have the proper authority. Ancient kings used a seal ring, containing the name, initials, or monogram, for this purpose. Jezebel, the wife of Ahab, “wrote letters in Ahab’s name, and sealed them with his seal.” 1 Kings 21:8. Of a Persian decree it is said that “in the name of King Ahasuerus was it written, and sealed with the king’s ring.” Esther 3:12. BR-ASI9 309.3
