Matthew 13

The same day went Jesus out of the house, and sat by the sea (Mark 4:1) side.

And great (Luke 8:4) multitudes were gathered together unto him, so that he went (Luke 5:3) into a ship, and sat; and the whole multitude stood on the shore.

And he spake many things unto them in parables, saying, Behold, a sower went forth to sow; Mark 4:3Mark 4:3, Luke 8:5Luke 8:5

And when he sowed, some seeds fell by the way side, and the fowls came and devoured them up: Mark 4:4Mark 4:4, Luke 8:5Luke 8:5

Some fell upon stony places, where they had not much earth: and forthwith they sprung up, because they had no deepness of earth: Mark 4:5Mark 4:5, Luke 8:6Luke 8:6

And when the sun was up, they were scorched; and because they had no root, they withered away. Mark 4:6Mark 4:6, Luke 8:6Luke 8:6

And some fell among thorns; and the thorns sprung up, and choked them: Mark 4:7Mark 4:7, Luke 8:7Luke 8:7

But other fell into good ground, and brought forth fruit, some an hundredfold, some sixtyfold, some thirtyfold. Mark 4:8Mark 4:8, Luke 8:8Luke 8:8

Who hath ears (Matthew 11:15; Matthew 13:43; Mark 4:9; Mark 4:23; Mark 7:16; Luke 8:8; Revelation 2:7; Revelation 2:11; Revelation 2:17; Revelation 2:29; Revelation 3:6; Revelation 3:13; Revelation 3:22; Revelation 13:9) to hear, let him hear.

And the disciples came, and said unto him, Why speakest thou unto them in parables? Mark 4:10Mark 4:10, Luke 8:9Luke 8:9

He answered and said unto them, Because it is given (Matthew 11:25; Matthew 16:17; Mark 4:11; Luke 8:10; 1 Corinthians 2:10; Colossians 1:26; 1 John 2:27) unto you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it is not given.

For whosoever hath, to him shall be given, and he shall have more abundance: but whosoever hath not, from him shall be taken away even that he hath. Mark 4:25Mark 4:25 , Luke 8:18Luke 8:18, Luke 19:26Luke 19:26

Therefore speak I to them in parables: because they seeing see not; and hearing they hear not, neither do they understand.

And in them is fulfilled the prophecy of Esaias, which saith, By hearing ye shall hear, and shall not understand; and seeing ye shall see, and shall not perceive:Isaiah 6:9 Isa 6:9Isaiah 6:9 , Ezek 12:2Ezekiel 12:2 , Luke 8:10Luke 8:10 , John 12:40John 12:40 , Acts 28:26Acts 28:26, Romans 11:8Romans 11:8

For this people's heart is waxed gross, and their ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes they have closed; lest at any time they should see with their eyes and hear with their ears, and should understand with their heart, and should be converted, and I should heal them.Isaiah 6:10 Isa 6:10Isaiah 6:10 , Mark 4:12Mark 4:12 , Acts 28:27Acts 28:27, Heb 5:11Hebrews 5:11

But blessed (Matthew 16:17; Luke 10:23; John 20:29) are your eyes, for they see: and your ears, for they hear.

For verily I say unto you, That many prophets and righteous men have desired (Hebrews 11:13; 1 Peter 1:10) to see those things which ye see, and have not seen them; and to hear those things which ye hear, and have not heard them.

Hear (Mark 4:14; Luke 8:11) ye therefore the parable of the sower.

When any one heareth the word of the kingdom, and understandeth it not, then cometh the wicked one, (Matthew 5:37; Matthew 6:13; Matthew 13:38; John 17:15; 2 Thessalonians 3:3; 1 John 2:13; 1 John 3:12; 1 John 5:18) and catcheth away that which was sown in his heart. This is he which received seed by the way side.

But he that received the seed into stony places, the same is he that heareth the word, and anon with joy (Isaiah 58:2; John 5:35) receiveth it;

Yet hath he not root in himself, but dureth for a while: for when tribulation or persecution ariseth because of the word, by and by he is offended.

He also that received seed among the thorns is he that heareth the word; and the care of this world, and the deceitfulness of riches, (Matthew 19:23; Mark 10:23; Luke 18:24; 2 Timothy 4:10) choke the word, and he becometh unfruitful.

But he that received seed into the good ground is he that heareth the word, and understandeth it; which also beareth fruit, and bringeth forth, some an hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty.

Another parable put he forth unto them, saying, The kingdom of heaven is likened unto a man which sowed good seed in his field:

But while men slept, his enemy (Luke 10:19; 1 Peter 5:8) came and sowed tares among the wheat, and went his way.

But when the blade was sprung up, and brought forth fruit, then appeared the tares also.

So the servants of the householder came and said unto him, Sir, didst not thou sow good seed in thy field? from whence then hath it tares?

He said unto them, An enemy hath done this. The servants said unto him, Wilt thou then that we go and gather them up?

But he said, Nay; lest while ye gather up the tares, ye root up also the wheat with them.

Let both grow together until the harvest: and in the time of harvest I will say to the reapers, Gather ye together first the tares, and bind them in bundles to burn (Isaiah 66:24; Malachi 3:3; Malachi 4:1; Matthew 3:12; Matthew 13:42; Mark 9:43; Mark 9:48) them: but gather (Matthew 3:12; Matthew 24:31; 2 Thessalonians 2:1) the wheat into my barn.

Another parable put he forth unto them, saying, The kingdom of heaven is like to a grain of mustard seed, which a man took, and sowed in his field: Mark 4:30Mark 4:30, Luke 13:18Luke 13:18

Which indeed is the least of all seeds: but when it is grown, it is the greatest among herbs, and becometh a tree, so that the birds of the air come and lodge in the branches thereof.

Another parable spake he unto them; The kingdom of heaven is like unto leaven, which a woman took, and hid in three measures of meal, till the whole was leavened. Luke 13:20Luke 13:20

All these things spake Jesus unto the multitude in parables; and without a parable spake he not unto them:

That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, saying, I will open (Psalms 78:2; Matthew 5:2) my mouth in parables; I will utter things which have been kept secret (Romans 16:25; Ephesians 3:9) from the foundation of the world.Psalms 78:2

Then Jesus sent the multitude away, and went into the house: and his disciples came unto him, saying, Declare unto us the parable of the tares of the field.

He answered and said unto them, He that soweth (Isaiah 61:1) the good seed is the Son of man;

The field is the world; the good seed are the children of the kingdom; but the tares are the children (Genesis 3:15; John 8:44; Acts 13:10; 2 Peter 2:14; 1 John 3:10) of the wicked one; (Matthew 5:37; Matthew 6:13; Matthew 13:19; John 17:15; 2 Thessalonians 3:3; 1 John 2:13; 1 John 3:12; 1 John 5:18)

The enemy that sowed them is the devil; the harvest (Joel 3:13; Revelation 14:15) is the end of the world; and the reapers are the angels.

As therefore the tares are gathered and burned in the fire; (Matthew 25:41) so shall it be in the end of this world.

The Son of man shall send forth his angels, (Matthew 24:31) and they shall gather out of his kingdom all things that offend, and them which do iniquity; (Matthew 5:20; Matthew 7:23)

And shall cast (Revelation 19:20; Revelation 20:10) them into a furnace of fire: (Isaiah 66:24; Malachi 3:3; Malachi 4:1; Matthew 3:12; Matthew 13:30; Mark 9:43; Mark 9:48) there shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth.

Then shall the righteous (Proverbs 4:18; Daniel 12:3) shine forth as the sun in the kingdom of their Father. Who hath ears (Matthew 11:15; Matthew 13:9; Mark 4:9; Mark 4:23; Mark 7:16; Luke 8:8; Revelation 2:7; Revelation 2:11; Revelation 2:17; Revelation 2:29; Revelation 3:6; Revelation 3:13; Revelation 3:22; Revelation 13:9) to hear, let him hear.

Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto treasure hid in a field; the which when a man hath found, he hideth, and for joy thereof goeth and selleth (Philippians 3:7) all that he hath, and buyeth (Isaiah 55:1; Matthew 25:9; Revelation 3:18) that field.

Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto a merchant man, seeking goodly pearls:

Who, when he had found one pearl (Proverbs 2:4; Proverbs 3:14; Proverbs 8:10) of great price, went and sold all that he had, and bought it.

Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto a net, that was cast into the sea, and gathered (Matthew 22:10) of every kind:

Which, when it was full, they drew to shore, and sat down, and gathered the good into vessels, but cast the bad away.

So shall it be at the end of the world: the angels shall come forth, and sever (Ezekiel 20:38; Ezekiel 34:17; Matthew 25:32) the wicked from among the just,

And shall cast them into the furnace of fire: there shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth.

Jesus saith unto them, Have ye understood all these things? They say unto him, Yea, Lord.

Then said he unto them, Therefore every scribe which is instructed unto the kingdom of heaven is like unto a man that is an householder, which bringeth forth out of his treasure things new and old. (Song of Solomon 7:13)

And it came to pass, that when Jesus had finished these parables, he departed thence.

And when he was come into his own country (Mark 6:1; Luke 4:16) , he taught them in their synagogue, insomuch that they were astonished, (Matthew 7:28; Matthew 22:33; Mark 1:22; Mark 6:2; Luke 4:32) and said, Whence hath this man this wisdom, and these mighty works?

Is not (Isaiah 49:7; Isaiah 53:3; Mark 6:3; John 6:42) this the carpenter's son? is not his mother called Mary? and his brethren, (Matthew 12:46; Mark 3:31; Mark 6:3; Luke 8:19; John 2:12; John 7:3; John 7:5; Acts 1:14; 1 Corinthians 9:5; Galatians 1:19) James, and Joses, and Simon, and Judas?

And his sisters, are they not all with us? Whence then hath this man all these things?

And they were offended (Matthew 11:6; Matthew 24:10; Matthew 26:31; Mark 6:3; Mark 14:27; John 6:61) in him. But Jesus said unto them, A prophet (Luke 4:24; John 4:44) is not without honour, save in his own country, and in his own house.

And he did not many mighty works there because of their unbelief. (Hebrews 3:19; Hebrews 4:2)
