For Obedience Is the Test of Loyalty to God, November 22

If ye know these things, happy are ye if ye do them. John 13:17. RRe 328.1

“Be ye doers of the Word, and not hearers only.” James 1:22. RRe 328.2

There are only two classes in the world today, and only two classes will be recognized in the Judgment,—those who violate God’s law, and those who obey it. Christ gives the test by which to prove our loyalty or disloyalty. If ye love Me,” He says, “keep My commandments.... He that hath My commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth Me.... He that loveth Me not keepeth not My sayings; and the word which ye hear is not Mine, but the Father’s which sent Me.” “If ye keep My commandments, ye shall abide in My love; even as I have kept My Father’s commandments, and abide in His love.—Christ’s Object Lessons, 283. RRe 328.3

The condition of eternal life is now just what it always has been,—just what it was in Paradise before the fall of our first parents,—perfect obedience to the law of God, perfect righteousness. If eternal life were granted on any condition short of this, then the happiness of the whole universe would be imperiled. The way would be open for sin, with all its train of woe and misery, to be immortalized.—Steps to Christ, 62. RRe 328.4
